Inaugural End of Year Book Fair
Connect with local communication authors and learn how to become one yourself!
We're doing our end-of-year event a little differently this year, and the Brisbane communications, PR, and change community is invited to join in the party!
There's so much talent in our community, we want to celebrate it. Five authors from our communications community will join our event to talk about their books, the writing process, and insights from their expertise.
You'll have the opportunity to pick their brains and buy their books, before we end the formalities and get into the party!
Expect drinks, snacks, and excellent company. It's your opportunity not only to learn, but to build new connections as we see out 2024 and start to look toward 2025.
Date: Wednesday 20 November 2024

A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the ILF, and you can also show your support by making a donation here.
About the authors
Jade Miller is an accomplished author, strategist, and communicator with a passion for delving into the human experience. With over two decades of experience in communication, marketing, and design, Jade has mastered the art of storytelling and visual expression, using her talents to foster connections and inspire change. Her unique perspective is shaped by her life's journey through significant challenges, including neurosurgery, chronic illness, and navigating the complexities of being a late-diagnosed autistic individual with ADHD. These experiences have not only deepened her understanding of herself but also of the broader societal and existential questions that many people grapple with.
Jade's work is characterized by her deep commitment to authenticity, creativity, and purposeful contribution. She leverages her expertise in visual thinking and strategic problem-solving to help businesses and individuals develop clear, impactful strategies that align with their values and goals. As a communicator and artist, Jade brings a refreshing blend of existential humor and pragmatic insight to her projects, encouraging others to explore their own sense of purpose and connection.
Residing in Brisbane, Australia, with her two daughters, Jade is deeply connected to her community and the natural beauty of her surroundings. When she's not writing, speaking on podcasts about visual communication and connection, or assisting clients, she can be found enjoying the beach with her family or expressing her thoughts and emotions through abstract art. Jade truly believes that life is about forming meaningful connections with ourselves and others, and she dedicates her work to helping people fill their lives with activities and relationships that bring them joy and fulfillment.
Jade Miller's latest book, "Making Lemonade," is a testament to her expertise in navigating life's challenges with grace and humor. It serves as an inspiring guide for anyone looking to find clarity, connection, and creativity in both their personal and professional lives.
Dr Tracy Stanley
Dr Tracy Stanley started her career in global companies including Xerox and British Airways and later joined Amadeus. She was fascinated by how changes were made across the business in multiple countries and cultures.
Tracy spent five years as a change manager on a global customer relationship management deployment project, five years leading organisational development projects, four years in knowledge management, and two years as an individual transition coach.
When Tracy came home to Australia after many years abroad, she was surprised by the proliferation of short-term change management vacancies, often asking for skills in digital transformation. Tracy wanted to know more. This is what prompted her to write the book of Change Stories.
Tracy’s previous books include: Engagement Whisperer: A quieter and more collaborative approach to inspiring your team; and Creativity Cycling: Help your team solve complex problems with creative tools, co-written with creativity expert, Barbara Wilson.
Always keen to learn, Tracy acquired a few qualifications including a Master of Business (Research), MBA and a PhD. Her doctoral research considered how work environments impact on creative behaviours and employee engagement.
Mel Loy is a self-confessed serial ideator, obsessed with how humans behave and what that means for effective communication. She got her start in the world of words by studying journalism, and soon discovered that while she never wanted to be a journalist, she loved learning about the power of communication.
Fast forward 20-plus years, and her resume was stacked with increasingly responsible corporate communication roles across emergency services, construction and mining, early learning, retail and more.
In late 2020, after leading her corporate communication team through the COVID-19 pandemic, Mel happily accepted a redundancy and skipped off towards the horizon, starting her own agency and never looking back.
These days, her small but mighty team at Hey Mel! Communication and Training provides consulting and training services to clients all over Australia and overseas, specialising in internal, change, crisis and strategic communication.
Mel is the author of the new book, Change Isn’t Hard: a playbook for practical, people-centred change communication, and the host of the Less Chatter, More Matter podcast.
Apart from being obsessed with communication, Mel is a qualified yoga teacher, group fitness instructor, and personal trainer, who has been involved in the fitness industry for more than a decade.
Mel Kettle is an internationally recognised expert at fully connected leadership and communication.
Mel is a trusted mentor to executives and leaders and a highly sought-after speaker and trainer. Her clients include leaders, teams and organisations that want to achieve real connection and sustained engagement.
At the heart of everything Mel does is a commitment to self-leadership. She has an over-arching belief that we need to lead ourselves first before we can lead others. This view came after she survived the debilitating effects of work-related loneliness, stress and burnout in her late 20s, and was reinforced when she had a life-threatening melanoma in her early-40s.
Mel also brings the unique educational combination of a Master of Business (Marketing) and a Master of Public Health, making her a valuable asset to clients including IRESS, Toll, Queensland Country Bank, ANZ, Westpac, the Local Government Association of Qld, Pharmacy Guild of Australia, IHC New Zealand, Arup and numerous universities and government agencies.
Mel's sub-speciality is helping women and organisations better understand the impact of menopause in the workplace. She has been a frequent podcast and radio guest talking about her experience and how organisations can better support menopausal women at work.
Mel has twice (2022 and 2023) been recognised by leadersHum as one of the Top 200 Biggest Voices in Leadership, one of only seven Australians on the list.
Mel is the host of podcast This Connected Life and the author of two books, the best-selling Fully Connected and The Social Association.
In her spare time, Mel loves to cook, go to the beach, dance around the house and read crime thrillers.
